Event Date:

Saturday July 18, 2009 - WEATHER PERMITTING
TIME: 10:30AM-12:30PM - for players that don't like early starts.

Location: Paul D. Schreiber H.S. in Port Washington (LI)
-back to PtW for old times sake!

The availability of multiple courts (side by side) are better than @ Kissena, Cunningham & Alley Pond and no permits are required.

Directions to the Paul D. Schreiber HS in Pt Washington:

BY Mass Transportation: Take the LIRR (Pt Washington/Flushing line to the last stop) to the Port Washington station. This High School is in walking distance from the LIRR station, so have someone direct you toward SCHREIBER HS. Walk east on Main Street, Right on PtW Blvd and then left on Campus Drive. (Landmarks are Baskin Robbins/Bagel Boss/Accents on Real Estate and then take Campus Drive all the way up the hill to main HS entrance which is eye distance from tennis courts.

By Vehicle: Take the LIE (495) Eastbound to Exit 36 Searingtown Rd/Pt Washington @ the 1st light turn left (north bound) go under the Expwy onto Searingtown Road. Christopher Morley Park is on the right. Proceed & cross Northern Blvd (Americana Mall on left) and continue toward Pt Washington. Eventually, you will pass 2 Getty Stations and 1 Exxon Station. After the Exxon Station, you are getting close. Turn "Right" @ "Campus Dr". This is one block after Bogart Ave. The landmarks @ Campus Drive are a "Accents on Real Estate Office" on the right side & a "Bagel Boss" on the immediate left. If you pass a Baskin & Robbins and Eckerd/Rite Aid, you went too far. Take Campus Drive all the way to the top and you will see the tennis courts on the left opposite the HS. (Should only take 18-20 mins by car from approx. Queens College)

I note that distance/travel might be a problem, and if so - just let me know and I can try getting you a ride or assist in the carpooling process.

Members are most welcomed to start arriving between 9:45-10:15AM. Please reserve a few courts for our group if you are early.

RSVP. We're limiting the event to 18 players.

Meetup Fee for this event:

Playing Members: $2.00
Playing Guest of Members: $3.00

PS: Kindly bring fresh/gently used tennis balls.

PLEASE DO NOT RSVP "YES" FOR THIS EVENT UNLESS YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU CAN ATTEND IN FAIRNESS TO OTHER MEMBERS AND THE ORGANIZERS - THANKS IN ADVANCE

If there is a chance of inclement weather for Saturday morning, I will post a weather update on Friday evening 7/17/09. Hope to see you on the 18th!

7:00 AM Sat 7/18 - looks like L.I. was spared overnight as there were NO heavy rain showers. It is DRY at present and I believe the forecast is okay for later. That said, I am saying we'll probably okay for our 10:30AM start. Members are welcomed to come earlier if they have a partner. If anyone has a push broom or a sweep broom, kindly bring it in case we need to push away small puddles. See you later. If any doubts, please phone me. My # is in the ABOUT us section.

Meetup Members that have RSVP'd YES to Port Washington 7/18: if it rains overnight and stops in the morning, what we'll do is meetup @ at the DINER around NOON (12:00) and then slowly head to the courts at 1:00PM, hopefully they'll be dry by then as it's suppose to be okay on Saturday afternoon. Let me know if I stand corrected. I will post a weather update by 8AM, and give you more details then. Please send a shout above this comment if your interested in the Diner portion.

    •  I had a great time. I enjoyed seeing the familiar faces from the last meetup I attended and great meeting the newer faces [mainly new to me ;) ] at today's meetup. It was great having lunch at the diner and getting to know everyone a little bit better. I look forward to attending more meetups and having the opportunity to improve my game.
    •  Surprisingly GREAT weather we had today after continuous threats of rain for Saturday morning all week. WELCOME & nice meeting "ALLEN", "ILENE" & "VANIA" for the 1st time. You are all very NICE players. DIE-HARD award(s) go to the unstoppable JOE, MIKE & ALFREDO who barely took breaks. GOOD SEEING "MONIQUE" after a long hiatus. Thank you SECOND TIMERS: DENISE & LANA for your support & coming back. And to our regulars: Rose Nelson Felix Beth Stephen Aruna Francis & Joanna - always a pleasure! 10 of us continued to the newly renovated PtW Diner on 41 Main Street for a pleasant lunch (breakfast for ROB) where we got to know each other better. Sorry for the incident involving some locals. We'll be better prepared the next time. Hope you all had fun and thanks for coming out to PORT.
    •  It was good to get together for lunch after tennis. -Beth
    •  Great meetup excluding the "thing" that happened. Lunch at the Diner was great too. I hope we can all eat there again after tennis. Got to meet my fellow tennis partners during the lunch and it's good to get to know the people who are giving me pointers and helping me to improve my game recently... Mike, Joanna, Rob, Alfredo.. always a pleasure hitting with you and listening to your advice. I hope I gotten better so that I can hit with you more often. I hope I don't tire you guys out. I know I run all over the place. See you all soon.
    •  Nice courts, nice diner, enjoyed meeting everyone
